Watch "Celebrate Israel" Parade, the largest demonstration of Jewish pride outside of Israel

On May 14, 1948 of the Gregorian calendar, Israel declared her sovereignty. Independence Day is celebrated in Israel according to the lunar, Hebrew, on the 5th of Iyar. (This year, it fell on April 27th). The Salute to Israel Parade or as it's now known, Celebration Israel Parade is held annually on the first Sunday in June- this year, on June 3rd.

Organizers claim 500,000 people participated last year, the first year the Parade was broadcast on NYC television. Enjoy this first-hand, on-the street coverage from last year's Celebrate Israel Parade held up New York City's Fifth Avenue. The event honoring Israel's 63rd birthday was held on June 5, 2011. The video segments include comments by Israel Amb. Michael Oren, Rep. Elliot Engel, Rep Charles Rangel, Grand Marshalls Eugene Gluck (a holocaust survivor) and Joseph Sitt of Thor Equities- who is redeveloping Coney Island. Dozens of community groups march and construct floats lauding various Zionistic qualities and characteristics.

This year, the parade is not without controversy, which attracts attention. Jeff Dunetz, who blogs at Yid with Lid, is encouraging Zionist groups to boycott the Jewish Community Relations Council's inclusion of anti-Zionist, leftist group, The New Israel Fund, and their affiliates (B'Tselem, Partners for Progressive Israel/Meretz USA), who lobby against Israel's government and military in international courts, and advocate 'boycott, divestment and sanctions' ("BDS") against Israeli-made goods in the marketplace.

Women call to protect women's rights under Muslim culture

The Center for Security Policy has launched a national public education campaign to ask America's leaders to end the real 'war on women' -- the Shariah War On Women.

Shariah law oppresses women's liberties and human rights, denying them their unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness:

* Life: Shariah destroys women's lives through honor killings, physical abuse, female genital mutilation, and rape. This occurs not only to Muslim women but also to Christian and secular women through acts of kidnapping, imprisonment and murder.

* Liberty: Shariah crushes women's liberty through censoring free speech, freedom of religion and freedom of association.

* Pursuit of Happiness: Shariah punishes women's pursuit of happiness by denying equal rights and freedom in marriage, divorce, child custody, education and employment

A panel discussion, moderated by Center President Frank J. Gaffney, Jr. and featuring several prominent civil liberties and human rights activists, launches the national campaign to end the Shariah War On Women. Panelists include:

Nonie Darwish, Cynthia Farahat, Karen Lugo, and Clare Lopez (not on this film).

Pres. Bill Clinton tells Milken Institute Global Conference that Europe should stimulate jobs, not just austerity

(Bloomberg) Former President Bill Clinton said European leaders need to focus on multiyear plans for economic stimulus to spur growth instead of relying on austerity measures.

“What our friends in Europe have to work out and what we should be encouraging is a strategy that should work over a 5- year period and then over a 10-year period,” Clinton said today in a speech at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California. “There simply is not enough growth.”

Clinton criticized high levels of borrowing and a lack of focus on employment initiatives, as reports showed euro-region unemployment rose to the highest in almost 15 years and manufacturing contracted for a ninth month. European Central Bank President Mario Draghi said last month European leaders need to create a “growth compact” as spending cuts across the region damp activity and prompt a backlash among citizens.

Europe doesn’t have a mechanism for struggling countries to leave the euro region, Clinton said. He drew a comparison to Argentina and Ecuador choosing to link to the U.S. dollar and adopt the currency, respectively, in the 1990s and 2000s, which he called a sound strategy “as long as we were on the up escalator.”

‘Exit Strategy’

“The difference between them and Greece was they could unhook and devalue,” Clinton said. “A lot of people didn’t like it, but it wasn’t calamitous. There was an exit strategy.”
Clinton said the U.S. presidential election will be long on promises the candidates can’t keep. The most important question policy makers can ask today is “How?” rather than “What?” or “How much?,” he said.

“Seventy percent of what we hear won’t make a lick of sense,” Clinton said.

The biggest political divide in the U.S. isn’t between liberals and conservatives, he said. It’s between “communitarians” like himself and “separatists” who are suspicious that government is engaged in a “secret drive to take more away from us,” he said. (By: Jason Kelly and Dan Levy in Bloomberg)

Winds of War: Will Israel Strike Iran Soon?

If US talks don't clearly disarm Iran by end of May- will Obama put the world's safety before his re-election?

Chris Mitchell of Christian Broadcasting News in Jerusalem has produced
Winds of War: Will Israel Strike Iran Soon? a video news story with text:
So far, negotiations with Iran and six nations, including the U.S., have produced nothing. Channel 10's Alon Ben-David said the next round on May 23 is crucial.

"I think it's a make or break meeting … and if we won't see a determined international front against the Iranians or some sort of international effort to persuade the Iranians to step down, I don't want to be in the shoes of the Israeli prime minister, but he might have to take a tough decision," Ben-Zion continued.

That decision will take into account the possible outcome of November's U.S. presidential election.

"So I think that Netanyahu fears that after Nov. 12, Obama is not going to be a partner he can count on," he said. "And you can see the rough exchange between those two gentlemen is very little trust between those two leaders unfortunately."

"This is one of the reasons Israel feels that time is running out, that something needs to be decided before November," he said.

"We are getting very close to the moment of truth. There is a school of thought in most of the Israeli leadership that these are the last moments that anyone can do anything about the Iranian nuclear program," Ben-David said.

He emphasized that Iran is not just a danger to Israel.

"Just imagine the kind of organizations that exist in this region and then imagine them with the proliferation of nuclear weapons. That's not a safe world to live in," Ben-Zion concluded. "So I think there's an international interest in preventing Iran from getting that capability."
